15 gal Foxy Lady wodyetia x Veitchia For Sale

Foxyladies hold the variegation when mature. Here are a few slightly variegated ones. They seem to have an overall hard time surviving. The only exception, would be the ones that are extremely variegated. Erik, the Foxtails were planted many months before the F1 Foxyladies.

I have 6 mature foxy ladies and all but 2 are variegated. That is how you can tell the difference between foxtail and Foxy Lady hybrid. Note the smooth texture of the seed fiber compared to a course fiber foxtail. I do not grow foxtails, so there could not be a mix up there. I have plenty of foxtails and Veitchia arecina in the yard so maybe it did a cross back with one of them to become fertile? Yeah I had one sprout a while back but had some irrigation issues to my potted plants in my absence and it ended up drying out and dying.
  • Note the smooth texture of the seed fiber compared to a course fiber foxtail.
  • There’s been a couple times where large all green forms have been available, but it hasn’t been too often.
  • Foxy Lady palms are incredibly fast growing palms and I think yours has a fighting chance if you get it in the ground ASAP and keep it's rootball watered.
  • Will the seed look like the one you show above, or is that just the f2?
  • For the past few months, specimens are in the 1gal pot size, with the palm being around a 1’ in height, most are variegated form.
  • Can you tell me if this baby foxy is a full green ?
Regardless, good luck and hopefully you'll be able to get a hold of this great palm sooner rather than later.. Bigger " seeder " at Kopsick sits close to where the collection's Veitchia grove is located. I have little doubt that had it been spring, or this time of year, germination likely would have succeeded.

Wodyetia X Veitchia AKA Foxy Lady

The collection has a few standard green Foxies, and a Variegated specimen whose crown receives full sun. FULL DISCLOSURE...these are not photos of my palms, nor did I take these photos. What’s the difference between the variegated and the green ? There’s been a couple times where large all green forms have been available, but it hasn’t been too often. Maybe a few other palmtalkers that I sold F2 to can pipe in. The F2 I am growing so far is hard to tell if they will have the vigor yet, but so far, so good. The over variegated ones seem to languish and slowly die or just grow very slow, probably due to lack of chlorophyll. Are they the same as an F1 growth rate? I don't know the different rates of growth for them in Florida. Do you know if this palm was field grown, dug up, and then placed in its pot? Also the variegation seems to be a morphological example of hybrid decline as the greens show hybrid vigor. The seeds that Mike Evans germinated were F2, there is no guarantee they will be Wodveitchias. Foxtails that I've grown all seem to throw one spear and sit for a long time (weeks to months), at which point they resume normal growth. Pretty sure they keep their variegation, at this stage we can already see the difference between the variegated lot and the greenies. I had about 7 seeds so I just planted them all, one popped.

There are many other wonderful palms to grow where you are. There are more palms than Foxy Lady. As Dean says, if it doesn't budge after a week or two of this shock, you may have a dead palm and one day the crownshaft will just collapse on you along with any green material that remains.

Call me anytime to chat about transplanting palms. They say the foxy lady is a rocket but the growth rate appears to be the same as seedlings. Yep, I was told it's the mother plant genes that determine the fruit/seed so you can't tell an F1 hybrid without growing it!
  • What’s the difference between the variegated and the green ?
  • Exactly I believe even the green form has some at some point I saw a mature green form produce some variation.
  • If you're up to a good challenge, Kopsick Palm - Arboretum in St. Pete has a few specimens, at least one that can / has produced seed.
  • The foxtails are the ones in community pots, and foxyladies are singles in 1 gal.
  • Maybe something I might try to track as time goes on.
They can be solid green without any variegation. Can you tell me if this baby foxy is a full green ? I bought one like that on eBay recently and it will eventually be planted in a shady/partially sunny area of the garden. They will feel heavier than the empty seeds as well. When looking at seeds on the Kopsick specimen(s), they will have a look that falls somewhere between those off Veitchia, and those off Foxtails. As foxy gold far as I know it is possible for these two to hybridize. Good stuff when ever someone finds a full green or the lucky charm let me know would like a small one it’s almost like finding Waldo There is full green and mostly green. There is a slight blonde strip but that why i asked is the green form Always green or does it have. Appears to be the green form. Never observed even hints of varigation on any of the solid green specimens i have seen in both FL. Now correct me if I am wrong is it true that even the green ones will spit out some variation in its life span ? There is a variegated one on ebay right now ends in 21 hours Yup, and that’s why 100% green go for more $$ I agree with Len, yours is most likely a RSN Hawaiian grown, or Sparksman Florida import that has been resold. If you do the 24hr soak thing, put a weak solution of seaweed extract in the water too. This would happen far more quickly for you than it does for those of us in the humid tropics where the plant tissues survive on atmospheric moisture for ages before the final collapse. Will the seed look like the one you show above, or is that just the f2? I didn't notice it until after the seedling got bigger... I have a Butia x Jubaea F2 that looks exactly like a Butia and growth speed is very similar to Butia. In fact, about all the foxyladies that exhibited extreme variegation did not survive. Apparently when the greenies are much older they can also put out the odd variegated leaf. I ask because I have 3 one leaf seedlings and they all have variegation so I'm just curious if they'll all keep this as adults
